Computer Hardware Training
Computer hardware training is a specialised course. One can specialise in computer hardware in a computer engineering degree course or in a computer science degree course run by a college or university. Alternatively, there are less recognized but equally informative computer hardware training courses which are run by commercial institutes offering computer education. A computer hardware training course run even by these institutes will offer a degree at the end as computer hardware training is a specialised vocation and requires a certificate to prove it specially.
There are many web sites which provide information on computer hardware. However, these online tutorials do not provide a complete computer hardware training as an online tutorial will not include any practical exercises or practical classes. A computer hardware training course run by a commercial institute may sometimes lead to the A+ degree. The A+ certification is also known as the ComTia A+ Certification (after the Computing Technology Industry Association). It is vendor neutral which means it covers products made by different hardware and software manufacturers. The course outline is roughly as follows: basics of computer installation, configuration, diagnosing, basic networking and preventive maintenance. Other topics in this course are the domains of security, safety, and even environmental issues and professional standards. A+ boot camps are intensive training courses and they include a lot of practical or hands-on classes.
Computer hardware training is usually essential if one wishes to work as a computer hardware technician. Having a college or university degree opens up the way to work as a computer hardware engineer (the difference between a technician and an engineer being largely restricted to the salaries offered).
A certificate from one of the commercial computer hardware training instititutes opens up the opportunity to work in big firms and at a high salary. If one is looking to work for smaller firms, such as shops selling computers and providing computer repairing services, such certificates are usually not required. One can be self-taught or learn from experience and may not have to possess a certificate from a formal computer technician training course. Salaries offered in such smaller firms are usually much lower than those offered in bigger firms.
It depends on one’s resources as to what type of training one wishes to receive. If one has the financial resources and also a basic familiarity with computers and some computer knowledge, then going in for a certificate computer training course is advisable.
Computer hardware training is always supplemented with computer software training. However, it must be pointed out that the reverse is not always the case. Basic computer hardware training is considered quite advanced whereas computer software training forms the rudimentary form of computer training. One of the reasons for this being that whereas practical exercises in using computer software can be a less expensive affair, practical exercises using computer hardware components is usually more expensive. These are some of the basics of computer hardware training that one needs to be aware about. For actual training, one needs to join a professionally taught course.
