A computer can\’t work unless you have an operating system. The brain of the unit is the operating system; it makes the myriad of hardware work together. Computers are no longer the only product that needs an operating system. Operating systems can be found on your gadgets such as your cell phones, video games and even on your TiVo but not everyone knows it.rnrnThe operating system came about when 2 people realized that it would make using a computer easier and more user friendly. Bill Gates and his associates at Microsoft created the first useful operating system with MS-DOS. Having known that this was the ultimate operating system did not completely satisfy them. A user had to have a more user friendly interface, and many people weren\’t able to adapt easily to the system due MS-DOS relied on typed commandsm which required the correct syntax.rnrnMicrosoft continued to develop the MS-DOS operating system in order to make it more accessible. They wanted a system, based on simply pointing and clicking, that would be easy enough for anybody to learn. They worked very hard and they were satisfied with the operating system they named Windows. It was an instant success.rnrnWindows has evolved and improved to the point that it is now easy for anyone to use a computer. Created for IBM personal computers, the operating systems they made continue to be among the most widely used globally.rnrnIBM, however, did not make gains in the personal computer market. The man that founded a company, Apple, was Steve Jobs. Jobs produced his very own computer system called Macintosh. The Mac computer was introduced with a unique operating system named Mac OS. Mac computers were unable to run Windows, and this forced Apple computers to put out a Mac operating system that was different than Windows. With the various updates for the Mac operating system, it made it more easier to use, just like windows. rnrnWhen choosing an operating system for your computer, you have many choices. Most computers come with Windows operating system already installed. You can choose a different operating system based on what your needs and likes are. As well as Windows, you can choose Linux and also other types of programs similar to Unix.rnrnAn operating system is necessary to make it easy for people to use a computer. Because it has point and click technology, even small children can use this computer easily.rnrnThe operating system is important to the computer. Without an operating system you would have trouble doing basic things like getting online, or even starting your computer. Your operating system runs all the processes on your computer without you ever having to know that it is there.
